Cases of elder financial exploitation are often complex, involving deceptive tactics, multiple accounts, and thousands of financial documents. Multidisciplinary teams bring together the professionals needed to respond, but core members frequently lack the specialized skills and time to untangle intricate financial transactions. Over the past decade, forensic accountants have become valuable partners in this work.
This issue brief and companion video series provide an overview of elder financial exploitation, what forensic accountants do, how they collaborate with elder abuse multidisciplinary teams and their members, and what teams should consider when building these alliances.
This project was funded by the Office for Victims of Crime, Office of Justice Programs, U.S. Department of Justice.
